20 albums that have had an impact on who I am. One album a day for 20 days. No explanations, no reviews, just album covers. In roughly chronological order
Day One: Black Sabbath Paranoid

Nothing is left of #BlackSabbath, which is no surprise given that Seventh Star wasn't planned to be a Sabbath album.
Please, let us never ever talk about "No Stranger to Love". This is such an godawful cheesy song. *Shruggs*
Luckily the next one - "Turn to Stone" - is much better. And it reminds me a lot of #DeepPurple actually:

Next up on my journey is #BlackSabbath's 12th studio album "Seventh Star", which was actually not supposed to be a Sabbath but an Iommi solo album.
Following Ian Gillan, another Ex-#DeepPurple vocalist joins Sabbath: Glenn Hughes.

It is 1984 and #DeepPurple are back! And not just "any" Deep Purple. It was the iconic Mark II with Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Ian Paice.
How come?
Gillan wasn't happy with #BlackSabbath
Lord and Paice weren't happy with #Whitesnake
Blackmore wasn't happy with #Rainbow
Polygram offered a shit ton of money and Deep Purple made Perfect Strangers.

Born Again is often seen as one of the weakest #BlackSabbath albums. The problem is the mismatch Gillan x Iommi, it didn't really work.
The album still is good though, but it could be so much better: 3.5/5
Ranking:
1 Paranoid 5
2 Sabotage 5
3 Heaven and Hell 4.5
4 Master of Reality 4.5
5 BlackSabbath 4.5
6 Vol. 4 4
7 Mob Rules 4
8 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 3.5
9 Born Again 3.5
10 Never Say Die 3.5
11 Technical Ecstasy 2

Can you imagine Freddie Mercury fronting Slayer?
Ok, bad example, Freddie would pretty much nail it everywhere.
But imagine Ozzy on Pink Floyd. That won't work, wouldn't it?
Ian Gillan is a legend and some of his vocal performances are unreached (Child in Time). But his vocals didn't really work with the #BlackSabbath sound, which is the overall problem with #BornAgain.
Here it works though:

So after a night of heavy drinking Ian Gillan joins #BlackSabbath after he was reluctant at first.
Born Again opens with a song about heavy drinking.
Coincidence?
I think not!

I am now halfway through my #DeepSabbath #Metaljourney
We are now in 1983 and this is a wild year in the #DeepPurple and #BlackSabbath cosmos:
Ozzy releases "Bark at the Moon"
Dio releases "Holy Diver"
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow release "Bent Out Of Shape"
But what really blows my mind is:
After a night of heavy drinking, (Deep Purple's) Ian Gillan commits to Black Sabbath in February 1983.
They release "Born Again", which will be up next on my journey.

While Black Sabbath are falling off the edge of the world, here's a hot take for you:

With #Dio Black Sabbath changed drastically. They became a very melodic heavy metal band, some call it epic doom.
Ozzy Sabbath is really heavy.
Dio Sabbath is really beautiful.

Am I going insane or does #Sabotage deserve the perfect score?
#BlackSabbath did everything right here, they needed a bit of a refresh after Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and this was it!
Sabotage was Sabbath's most expensive album, it was worth every penny!
Here, have your perfect sore:
Ranking:
1. Paranoid 5
2. Sabotage 5
3. Master of Reality 4.5
4. BlackSabbath 4.5
5. Vol. 4 4

#BlackSabbath up the tempo on #Sabotage did they just invent speed doom?
Am I crazy or did they borrow the riff from Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" here?

Riffs riffs riffs!
...but also the first time that I thought: "that's a filler" (looking at you Sabbra Cadabra).
The title track and Killing Yourself to Live are standout tracks, the rest is good.
#BlackSabbath gets 3.5/5 for #SabbathBloodySabbath

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is #BlackSabbath's 5th studio album.
They got heavier and doomier with each album and it looks like this one will continue this path.
#SabbathBloodySabbath starts with such a heavy riff, it must weight as much as a Mastodon.

#BlackSabbath Vol. 4 gets a 4. Out of 5 that is.
While it is great, it doesn't quite reach Master of Reality level and towards the end it gets a bit long. But this is critizism at a very very high level.
My favourite song was probalby the opener, Wheels of Confusion.
Oh and I decided that I like Master of Reality better than Black Sabbath.
Ranking:
1. Paranoid 5
2. Master of Reality 4.5
3. BlackSabbath 4.5

The first time I ever listened to Snowblind was somewhere in the early 2000s and it was a cover version by System of a Down.
The original by #BlackSabbath is much much better though:

#BlackSabbath album number four is called "Vol. 4".
What else but a typical heavy but catchy Tony Iommy riff opens this album, which is considered an underrated one by many.
