New Koske Linux malware hides in cute panda images

[...] A new Linux malware named Koske may have been developed with artificial intelligence and is using seemingly benign JPEG images of panda bears to deploy malware directly into system memory.

I’m looking for anyone in my circles who:

• is a front-end web developer
• has some design sense
• understands the allure of buying a Linux computer
• is open to paid work

A Linux computer company reached out asking if I was available for paid work on their website and while I would love to, I’m just not able to find the time right now. But they’re a great company and I would love to connect them with someone!

@BastilleBSD A dual Pentium II 266MHz with several massive 9GB SCSI drives running Mandrake Linux 9.2. Summer of 2004 at work. That was my first exposure to #Linux. A year or two later was my first exposure to #FreeBSD 6 on a similarly spec'd machine.

Both were big beige boxes.

`vet` is a CLI tool that acts as a safety net for the common but risky `curl | bash` command. It lets you inspect remote scripts for changes, run them through a linter, and require your explicit approval before they can execute on your developer or production machine.

@BastilleBSD a pentium 60. It ran a #linux floppy firewall for a few years. It was in a beige hp desktop I think

With #qemu (and probably others) explicitly disallowing AI generated code, but keeping the same license, there's bound to be some fun when people have code coming from other code bases which allow it; e.g. @kees playing with a few bits in the #linux kernel (mostly test though).

I found a technician who'd work on a Linux machine, and she solved my problem (I had no wifi whatsoever) the same day that she received it.

I realize the culture of Linux "fix it yourself!" and I tried. I got a buddy to help. We couldn't figure it out, so I paid a professional to fix it and then tell me how she did it.

I want to normalize this. For Linux to be viable, it can't just be a hobby OS. Paying pros to fix it, and set it up for you, is part of that.

Free software is critical infrastructure, yet its upkeep falls on volunteers while giants like Microsoft or Google profit. As with other public goods, they should fund it via a dedicated tax feeding (like roads) a European fund (EU-STF) to ensure security and digital sovereignty. Europeans shouldn’t pay so Amazon can remain a free rider.
