For those, who didn't see it yet: #Soundcloud changes user terms to assume user consent when training AI with uploaded material.
Definately time to get out, unless you want to see your music become assimilated namelessly by the auto-generating hive mind.

If you decide to let your music remain on Soundcloud consider changing style tags to something misleading. An AI can be mislead, and that's probably useful in this context. And another good method to degrade AI quality is to purposedly feed it with their own generations.

Feel free to discuss, #boost / #reshare.

Soundcloud is using everyone's music to train AI and they started it quietly already in 2024. Don't load any new music there, unless it is absolute garbage meant to poison their system.

Share the word. Don't trust Soundcloud.

Herr Irrtum!

Two things!

1st: New track
#release: "Goin' Mirlo".
-
https://mirlo.space/die-nmi/release/various

Why is that?

2nd: Because I moved most of my stuff away from
#Soundcloud today. This company is now feeding my work to unspecified AI companies, and no. I am sick of doing free creative commons for company suckers. I do music for humans. Not for AI. So good bye, soundcloud.

What remains there is an
#antifa track (can't be wrong to train AIs to be anti fascist), an old noisy track of mine from 1989, and this one. To cut deeply into their flesh or so :)

I can only recommend to do that to other musicians as well, as long as you don't want to have strange AI clones of your music around (but without your spirit) and other people making money out of it.

If you move away, try to stay away from shady dark patterns infested "upload your music" services.

Personally I've decided to move from Soundcloud to
#Mirlo Space (hence the title) - here are those guys: @mirlo@musician.social . I've watched them for almost a year trying to enable something different, something cooperative style for and together with musicians and not for some companies sake. Trust takes time, and I think I can trust the Mirlo gang now ;) .

You still have other options in case you wanna move away from Soundcloud – a complete other model would be i.E. self hosting your
#music with something as cool as #faircamp . Just don't stumble into the fangs of the next musicians spirits sucking company, doing this not for your benefit but for their shareholders. That won't go well. Never unfortunately.

#SoundCloud updated its Terms of Service, apparently in Feburary 2024

uk.news.yahoo.com/soundcloud-q

Basically, unless you have a record label or other third party rights holder managing your SoundCloud, this line in the ToS applies:

"You explicitly agree that your Content may be used to inform, train, develop or serve as input to artificial intelligence or machine intelligence technologies or services as part of and for providing the services."

See: soundcloud.com/terms-of-use

They've doubtless already scraped my work, but they don't deserve to keep it if they pull T&C changes like this.

I'll be taking my stuff off there and hosting Faircamp, I reckon. Maybe dump the actually popular stuff over to Bandcamp for discovery purposes? (But is that just asking for this to happen again.)

SoundCloud Quietly Updated Their Terms to Let AI Feast on Artists' Music

I deleted my #soundcloud account circa 2014 because of their uncarring nature around accessibility.
They had a developer who took the time to sit with me for about an hour and a half at one point, took all the fixes for the iOS app onboard and within weeks, had come out with something above and beyond what I could have hoped for. I was a pro member at that time and was happy to be so, because it felt like they cared about their customers.
About half a year later, the app had reverted back to what it was before my chat, probably even worse than it was in fact, you could no longer comment directly in-app and well, it was a bad time. Accessibility became a rude word, nothing worked well and to this day it's an unfriendly experience.
I pulled all my content from the platform and vowed never to use it again. Canceled the account, got a refund and walked away.

Even now if I have to use the site I do so only with great amounts of contempt.

Click a soundcloud link on iOS with VoiceOver and especially if you're using Chrome, you get one thing on screen and that's it.
VoiceOver reports 'Bullet Operator' and nothing else.

I loathe the platform and all it stands for. I have for 11 years and that doesn't look set to change.

It looks like some C-level exec at Soundcloud decided, "Hey, we're making too much money, and our users actually trust us or something. We've got to remedy that situation! Seriously, I want to turn this place into a ghost town, where all our content's been moved elsewhere by its creators."

Seriously, why else would they do this? 🤡

Please boost so creators know to move platforms.

#PSA Heads up: Soundcloud will use your content to train AI

ETA: Lovely news! The change to SoundCloud's terms of service happened in February 2024; they've been stealing your intellectual property for a whole-ass year.

If you have #music on #Soundcloud, be aware that their current terms of use (which you can read here: soundcloud.com/terms-of-use ) include this gem:

"In the absence of a separate agreement that states otherwise, You explicitly agree that your Content may be used to inform, train, develop or serve as input to artificial intelligence or machine intelligence technologies or services as part of and for providing the services."

#AI shitweasels.

I've deleted my account.
