well this is an interesting #qemu patch which in some ways implements to the pre-TCG days of stringing gadgets together: https://patchew.org/QEMU/20250722174228.16205-1-j@getutm.app/

It's a workaround for the lack of #JIT support on #ios which is why #utm's emulation is really slow. It's the only production use of the TCG interpreter I'm aware of - we have backends for 9 different architectures so most people have to go out of their way to use the interpreter.

this one was interesting: my wife's ipad randomly started jacking up the volume to 100% at random times

after much experimenting, figured out that the volume controls, iOS, settings, etc - were just fine and the problem was caused by bluetooth.

she has two different pairs of BT earbuds, and it was randomly connecting to the alternate set at whim. whenever it connected to the other pair, it would auto-set the volume to 100% and then fight with the other pair for volume control.

tons of useless apple forum posts about this without any real solution. solution is: disconnect and unpair your other BT listening devices so they don't fight for control over the ipad.

Very good question (that was already asked in the #DMA workshops a year ago):

Why do competing #browser makers have to publish an entirely new app instead of being able to update their existing apps?

Apple's answer: We worked hard to bring other browsers into #iOS but we will do that "the way we feel comfortable with". No better way to say "I'm an omnipotent monopolist, go f--- yourself."

Clear comments by alternative #AppStores on #iOS:

* With Apple's anti-competitive (and #DMA-busting behaviour) no one can compete
* #Apple disadvantages #FOSS apps while its iOS itself (and many more Apple software) relies on free and open source software

Apple lobbyist respond with a big strawman how "everyone wants us to give away everything for free." No one ever asked for and the DMA certainly doesn't require that.

I think #Apple's strategy is just wast everyone's time and delay so they can push things through the courts. Their #monopoly profits on #iOS are just so vast that this approach will mean biggest profits than actually engaging with the democratic process and complying with the #DMA . It feels almost pointless listening to Apple's answers, they mostly just rehash more marketing points and waste time with blah blah.
