Another installment of my blog + a recap of my very first Plasma Sprint!

Thanks to some studious bugfixing at the sprint I'm now finally able to daily drive Plasma Mobile longer-term.

This is an excellent showcase by "orailnoor" of the Mobian OS with KDE (Debian Linux on the phone) - it's not ready for daily driving, but it looks good:

@drew_belloc @noodlejetski I don't have a dock either. I do have a favourites row though, and currently these are the pinned apps (arranged in no particular order):

1. Calls by #GNOME & #Purism

2. Chats (#Chatty) by Purism & GNOME - supports #SMS, #Matrix, #XMPP

3. Contacts by GNOME

4. #Firefox web browser by #Mozilla

5. #SignalMessenger

6. GNOME Settings

7. #Phosh Mobile Settings

8. Tweaks by #postmarketOS

9. #Tuba (client for #Mastodon / #Fediverse)

10. #Kasts by #KDE

11. #DeltaChat ( #openstandards-based, #securityaudited, fast #e2ee chats over bloody #email!)

12. Files / #Nautilus by GNOME

All #FreeSoftware /Libre, #OpenSource #FOSS / #FLOSS : )

Note: The home screen and the app drawer / search / overview is all one and the same.

FOSS mobile OS FuriOS has been updated to version 13.0.9 The update includes updates to Gnome, bug fixes, support for two way clipboard, and more. I was able to upgrade my FLX1 from 13.0.8 to 13.0.9 simply with a couple rounds of "sudo apt update" and then "sudo apt upgrade". I had no issues with my upgrade.

The main website for FuriLabs is here:

furilabs.com/

A full changelog for the update can be found here:

The store page for the FLX1 is here:

The company has a Github page where their code can be found:

The company has a presence on Mastodon here:

A while ago I learned that Balatro is made in a fun game engine called #love2d, which turns out to be quite the cross-platform beast.
This of course meant I had no choice but to run it on my #linuxmobile phone running #postmarketos and #plasmamobile
Runs at a locked 60fps on my OnePlus 6T and plays really well besides needing some persuasion to accept screen rotation!
No movie magic, no translation layers, no virtual machines.

no worries, there's a #sxmo userscript for #linuxmobile which helps you on this 🤓

If you have a #PinePhone or another #LinuxMobile device where Firefox feels a bit sluggish, Kumo may be worth a look: linuxphoneapps.org/apps/org.ca

These days installing has become a lot easier, as Kumo is now available on Flathub: flathub.org/apps/org.catacombi

What's your favorite input method?

Cause for me it was the one on old #Nokia phones. I could type with my hands in my pockets! Handy in winter.

This is just the beginning. Actually useful stuff is coming in the future. #Mobile keyboards, #Chinese input is what it's for:

That's all I can think of on the spot. Of course there's still the camera and GPU stuff, but these would need their own dedicated threads 😂 Feel free to hit me up if you want to hack on some of these things, I could likely offer some help and guidance.

The Librem 5 (and mobile GNU/Linux in general) has matured a lot over the years, but there are still some areas where the software stack is behind the hardware capabilities. Some of them are often talked about, such as camera quality or GPU (GLES3/Vulkan/OpenCL), but there are also lesser known ones in need of some plumbing and middleware infrastructure. Maybe you'll find something interesting to hack on there?
