Posting from Tuba on #PostmarketOS with #Phosh on a second hand OnePlus 6. Also got Flare (Signal client) working. Firefox of course works.

Haven't gotten working yet:
- GPS
- Camera

Haven't tested yet:
- Waydroid to use Android apps

Today I'm giving a presentation about #postmarketOS at the #NLLGG (Dutch LUG). I did one in 2019 when our project was just 2 years old, it's about time for an update!

@anders @aram
we should sponsor somone to hack #postmarketos onto the privacy invading boox #epaper...
i think there would be quite an interest

omg I totally forgot to announce this when I merged it but...

#postmarketOS has a new installer for laptops and tablets! 🎉

You can find images at postmarketos.org/download. Currently only pre-built images exist for Lenovo X13s and Generic x86_64, but it's easy to enable building images for other devices if there's enough interest!

It uses os-installer[1] on GNOME desktop, and is intended to be booted from USB disk to install pmOS onto local storage 🔥

Finally found a cheap (€ ~50) used #OnePlus6 phone in good condition!

Managed to install #PostmarketOS on it. What a great feeling!

Camera is not working, but I guess that will hopefully be fixed later.

Look forward to explore this further.

Any tips/tricks for a #linuxmobile noob ?

#phosh looks beautiful also!

Searching for hackers (hacker: anyone that likes making technology do what wasn't intended) to build a community for jailbreaking MR headsets

Chat anyone interested in glitching Mixed Reality headsets ? I'm trying to build a community so we can get something done, as there's a bunch of folks that wanna charge money for it and I don't really like that idea x3.

The main SoC is XR2 by Qualcomm, it is an ARM SoC, and most of the headsets run very locked-down Android.

The goal here is to try to jailbreak it so we can run custom, fully open source software on it, possibly even mainline drivers to Linux and run something like #postmarketos :)

Unfortunately I am a systems hacker, I am hopeless when it comes to electric engineering anything, so I cannot actually pull off glitching myself. I can help with the stuff that comes after, such as mainlining drivers, though :)

IRC #xrbreak on oftc
Matrix: #xrbreak:itycodes.org
Discord: discord.gg/HeDAg3Ma7A

Please boost! Let's build an open and accessible community!

Any help is appreciated, no information is useless! If you would be interested in helping, we need anyone with, including BUT NOT LIMITED TO

MR headsets for testing
Electrical engineering knowledge
Ability to design or assemble PCBs
Reading ARM disassembles to try to find a glitch point or a bootrom exploit or w/e
General experience with hacking embedded devices
Experience with Linux or Android security for rooting
Anyone with info about TEE/TrustZone (kexecing mainline kernel from rooted Android)
Contacts to folks that have any of the above
Experience managing communities and setting up bridges, wikis...

Finally got modem and sensors working on the generic SDM845 systemd image on my #postmarketOS #OnePlus 6. I had to manually install the hexagonrpcd config and udev rules files from device-oneplus-enchilada. Then it seems modem only comes up if a SIM card is installed. I then installed vvmd and mmsd-tng and had to enable/start their systemd services. Now I think it has feature parity with the device-specific OnePlus 6T install (using openrc) on my 6T.

@Lioh The most important is that all phones become amazing when you put #postmarketos and #sxmo on it !

Even the pinephone, which was a little sluggish is good on sxmo

Success! I've installed a new battery in my #OnePlus 6 running #postmarketOS. Old battery capacity reported around 0.5Ah, new battery out of the box reports 2.96Ah and was around 50% charged, so letting it charge up now. Used a hair dryer to weaken the adhesive and @iFixit suction cup and picks to get the back off. After removing the back, swapping the battery is quite simple.

Which of these smartphone OSes do you think is more secure currently? For whatever definition of "secure" feels right to you.

Some options have multiple variants, please vote based on the most secure variant you know of.
