I was about 16 years old when I started reading The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. At the time, I thought it was too naturalistic. Moreover, I often spoke negatively about this series of books even in my posts. I did not like the style, and the world itself did not hook me. But now I've decided after seven years to give it another chance.

The day before yesterday I started reading the first book again. I haven't written anything about it until now, because I wanted to read at least to the middle to form my own opinion.

And you know what? Of course, this means nothing to the author or anyone else, but I want to apologize to the entire series of books and to Andrzej Sapkowski for reviewing his work as something of a failure for six years. I literally sleep very little now because I can't stop reading.

It also got me thinking that I may have just grown up before this novel and the world the author created. I suppose at that age I didn't quite understand it all yet and wasn't ready to read books like this. Perhaps I was too humble, with morals that served as a barrier in me and didn't allow me to accept the story.

About the Netflix series, I can't say anything because I haven't watched it. They say it doesn't live up to the book and they messed up a lot of things about it, but after the books, I'll still give it one chance.

Now I'm not even quite sure what exactly I didn't like back then. Sure, some of the same stylistic traits that probably made me say “thanks, no thanks” after a quarter of the book seven years ago. But, as they say, better late than never. I'm genuinely glad I decided to overcome my antipathy and try to immerse myself in the world of The Witcher again. It worked this time.

Have any of you read this series? What did you think?

Playing Witcher 3, I observed something. Games are much more, hmm, spiritual, than books. In the books Geralt fights monsters, who are basically more dangerous animals/humanoids. OK, there is first story when he lifts curse from the striga (early installment weirdness?), but generally undead don't exist. There are no ghosts, vampires are ghouls are just another type of living creatures. But the games are full of ghosts, especially third one. Plenty of quest are about exorcising some type of ghost or interacting with them. Sometimes Geralt looks more like travelling exorcist than warrior. BTW, there is some inconsistency about this - Geralt interacts with ghost on daily basis and plenty of them are evidently sentient souls of the people, not just some spectres. But still there are plenty moments in dialogues like "we don't if there is afterlife" (e.g. when Iris von Everec is afraid that when she gives Geralt rose, she will stop existing, Geralt can;t console it "Naaah, afterlife totally exists, few days ago I wa partying with your deceased brother-in-law. Or curious Geralt asks Regis if there something after "death" - Regis answers that he can't answer truly, because vampires desctruction is not the same as human true death - but Geralt could ask this question plenty of actual ghosts he have met). #RPG #CPRG #videogame #witcher

More #Witcher art. Everyone's favorite bard, Jaskier, with Probably Geralt.
(at least, I colored and designed the arm to possibly be his)

Hmn, wonder what the Witcher means by that...

As I am posting this I have the sweet image of this precious bard braiding Geralt's long white hair as he softly sings Love You Like I Do by HIM under his breath, drawing sweet rumblings from his pretty witcher...

This is what that was for. Shading is way too ambitious for the throne and I don't know where to start besides giving that bit of depth.

I was trying to write a toot about magic and computer programming, but I had a lot of thoughts on this topic. So, I wrote a blog post.

My Hugo-based blog that I last touched in 2020 doesn't seem to build with the latest Hugo. It is still rough since I am shifting to a new theme (e.g. it is stuck in dark theme). Anyway, here's the blog post.

Thanks to a friend recommending adding in the bass ocarina on this song, I love how this one turned out. Knew shortly after I picked up practicing the ocarina I'd want to make a version of this piece.
