Being pro-contact is inherently anti-feminist, contrary to the popular conspiracy theory among pro-cs about age of consent laws being designed to "oppress" children the reality is that throughout history and in many countries it has been largely a push from women to protect younger girls from misogynistic and predatory men, it has been about trying to protect them from the trauma that too many women go through at young age and which was enabled by a misogynistic culture and bad aoc laws.
And it's not only about protection from predators but aoc laws also serve the purpose of uplifting women's independence and personal development by freeing them from the chains of marriage and pregnancy at a very young age, giving them more time to get education and persue their own careers before deciding to have a family or marry. Unfortunately this had the negative side effect in some places of leaving young men behind and that's why you can find different aoc's for gay men sometimes.
@Liminal I feel like youth rights would be an easier movement to support if there wasn't the larger cultural problem with how our societal hierarchies enable abuse, particularly of a sexual nature. For a youth rights movement to be the freeing and child focused movement it seeks to be, the larger cultural issues of abuse would have to be addressed as well. Focusing on children's consent and choices can be helpful in this way because then it puts more emphasis on what choldren and teenagers desire, but it still might not be enough to combat the rampant sexual abuse that would follow from that. I guess it depends a lot of whether or not youre pro c because you care about kids having healthy sexual experiences and control over their bodies or if youre pro c because you just want to fuck kids regardless of how they feel about it. Its easy to abuse the trust of children, not necessarily because theyre dumber or less capable, but because they will have less experience with abusive/manipulative situations and how to navigate and avoid them. Ultimately it seems to come down to whether or not you find society's current abuse towards children and their sexuality to be better or worse than what abuse would result from them being able to legally consent from a much younger age. Its understandable that there's a lot of different opinions on the subject given how touchy it is.
@Liminal thank you
