A lot of cats don't realize that Japanese Martial Arts has always been a thing long before Okinawan Karate came to Mainland Japan and long before Judo and Aikido were created. The perfect example of this is the Ancient Martial Arts of the Samurai known as Koryū (Ko-Ryū) (古武道).
Naginatajutsu (薙刀術) The Art Of The Naginata a Weapon Similar to a European Glaive and a Chinese Guan Dao. Used by both Men and Women.
Jittejutsu (Juttejutsu) (十手術) The Art Of The Japanese Weapon Jitte (Jutte) a Weapon that was used by Law Enforcement during the Edo Period. It has some similarities to the Okinawan Sai.
Kusarigamajutsu (鎖鎌術) The Art Of The Kusarigama A Sickle And Chain Weapon.
Battōjutsu (居合術) Another Sword Drawing Art and an Old Term for Iaijutsu
Jujutsu (Jūjutsu) (柔術) The Art Of Grappling it also includes Striking. You also have Yawarajutsu.
There are many more but those are the brief ones I wanna touch on for now.
Shurikenjutsu (手裏剣術) The Art Of Shuriken And Throwing Weapons.
