When I tried VR Chat a long time ago everyone was like HURR DURR this or that guy "made me an avatar" and I was like uuuuugh, ok?

Everytime I met one of those and started to ask some basic questions about 3d modeling they hesitantly were admiting to just texture swapping and other bs like that. They got really defensive and avoided me afterwards.
