Even if you don’t care about animal feelings, when you purchase meat it must have been slaughtered, and slaughterhouse workers suffer some of the worse PTSD and mental health conditions from working in a horrible environment killing animals all day.

“violence against animals has been linked to psychological health problems in humans”

The only way to stop this violence is to go #vegan - do it for humans if not for animals!

@shauny

I care too much for humans to want to take away their dietary choice and agency.

There is a case to be made about slaughterhouses, to kill the animal in a more efficient and painless way, and overall improve the infrastructure so animals don't just breathe each other's sweat and shit so employees don't feel bad.

I think the best recourse to reduce meat consumption is to teach people how to farm with animals (say a chicken run) and how to cull the animal properly. It would make people more conscious of the stakes that come with meat production and perhaps buy meat from places that respect their own livestock. The complete disconnection between the product in stores and what it took to make it sure enables awful treatment of livestock. And I doubt a simple government message on the label is enough. It takes seeing it.

My mom loves animals, and I even mentioned to her what it takes to kill a whole chicken for meat and the difference of methods between a family owned coop and a meat industry. Because she never had to do the killing herself, she doesn't mind buying those from the store and would never take the knife to cull it the painless way. That's the disconnect.

Another thing is, Veganism is not always the most ethical way, despite what I constantly hear. If you are Utilitarian and Anti-specieist then I guess the lives of the many outweigh the lives of the few, but it's a position not everyone adheres to.

@Wopu why is veganism less ethical?

Also I think “but people choose to eat meat” is not a good argument. People choose to do other terrible things and we have laws against that. What about the animals rights?

how do you want to sustain 8 billion people. plants ?? bugs ?? meat is literally the best source of nutrient please forget about this nonsense we NEED meat

@fartkart @Wopu meat is inherently inefficient and we can sustain far more people with far less land using just plants. No bugs please 🙅🏻
