so that contact stance thread was wild... anyway, i wanted to start fresh and say a couple things:
1) the *feeling* of overwhelming evidence for the anti-c position is incredibly valid. that's because it's the dominant ideology of our culture. it's the water we're swimming in. all the adults in our lives (unless they were incredibly based) taught us sex is dangerous, or at least shameful, and that any adult who desired us sexually was a monster. and as to our own sexual desires? naughty, inconceivable, or sinful. despite the lack of real evidence, it makes sense that anti-c people would *feel* as if the whole world is on their side––because culturally it is.
2) while doing proper research and disseminating true information is hugely important, i've noticed we tend to argue about scientific studies the way religious folk argue over interpretations of scripture. of course the truth matters, but do we really want to cede the authority of truth-telling to the institutions who make money from our suffering?
3) our love itself is proof enough. our relationships are their own justification. what lover needs to lay out a spreadsheet that proves how they feel to their beloved? the language of love is all the ways we cannot keep count. it's timeless, shameless, immeasurable, irrational. people change when they love and are loved. and it changes people to see that love in action.
