I would like to host a static website and have already a small vm hosted on Digital Ocean. Is it a good idea to use it as a webserver or should I go for a webhosting provider?
Anyone know the drawbacks of hosting it yourself, like security wise for example?

@notsostubby Security is fine. And it's simple and easy to setup yourself on a VM. No need to pay extra money for a dedicated host. Just look up "nginx letsencrypt" and you can set it up in ten minutes. Use namecheap or something to buy a domain name and just look up how to set A records on there

@applejack Well originally I thought of making some sort of blog for where I live just to list everything news worthy that the media won't cover. (like our virus "expert" having hold presentations on how to manipulate the public and media).
But then I noticed that most people just don't care that they are manipulated and whatnot. Too consumed with daily live. So I gave up that idea.

Also because I couldn't think of a good fqdn.
