Metals and Bitcoin serve two different purposes.
If you only want to store value and prepare for when shit hits the fan, you buy gold and silver, other metals too maybe.
If you want to move money around in several degrees of freedom, then Bitcoin is your guy. Monero is even better.

@applejack It's not that easy. Bitcoin doesn't depend on the internet. You can transmit any newly mined block over radio waves, light, whatever you want, people find ways. One block a day would suffice.
@applejack This is one of the reason why the original developers of Bitcoin resisted so much the idea of expanding the block beyond 1MB
