Good Kid, M.A.A.D City is a 2012 studio album by American rapper Kendrick Lamar. The album follows Kendrick’s debut, Section.80, and serves as the major-label debut for the Compton-bred rapper. The production of the album was handled by Dr. Dre, Hit-Boy, Pharrell, and more. The title is a double entendre for Kendrick Lamar’s hometown of Compton, California and the phrase “my angry thoughts diary” (M.A.A.D). The album is seen as one of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time, earning universal praise from various music publications, including Rolling Stone, and eventually winning four Grammys. The album alongside Section.80 is often seen as a landmark in Kendrick Lamar’s career and a key influence in his subsequent records.
