@LennartMathiassen Oh my god. According to this video, Impossible Meat is made wit hemoglobin, a blood extract, to give it the meat flavor.

These people are insane.
@thatbrickster @LennartMathiassen I did not know you could get hemoglobin from outside blood. Nonetheless, Soy Estrogen is probably a concern.

I do not wish to eat something made from base chemicals except vitamin and minerals to /supplement/ a normal diet.
@se7en It's soy *phyto*estrogen. It's around 10,000x less potent than actual estrogen. Even then it exhibits some anti-estrogenic effects, like binding to the breasts' beta receptors in women (alpha is pro-estrogenic, hops exhibits this).

>I do not wish to eat something made from base chemicals except vitamin and minerals to /supplement/ a normal diet.
Apart from D and B12 (before duckweed gets commerialised), and perhaps iodine, I don't see much reason to supplement. If you can't get the majority of vitamins and minerals from your 'normal' diet then I'd suggest you look at the diet instead of spending extra money to cover its shortfalls.

@LennartMathiassen
@thatbrickster @LennartMathiassen As I have said to you before, it is a form of personal insurance. I linked you the lecture "Dead Doctors Don't Lie". The truth is that there is varying quality of nutrients in food, and the number of nutrients in some crops is non-existent due to a number of factors. By taking a supplement regime you're maxing your hp stats and pissing out the excess.
@se7en
>it is a form of personal insurance
Eating a good diet is a form of personal insurance. Not only are whole foods better than their isolated components, some supplements are known to be contaminated with heavy metals.

>the truth is that there is varying quality of nutrients in food
>the number of nutrients in some crops is non-existent due to a number of factors

>by taking a supplement regime you're maxing your hp stats and pissing out the excess
And spending money in excess to get almost the same benefits of a 'good' diet.

@LennartMathiassen
@thatbrickster @se7en @LennartMathiassen a good diet is probably out of the reach of anyone in america of median income or lower.
@fluffy I'm on welfare, well below the median. If that's true, I should be dead.

@LennartMathiassen @se7en
@thatbrickster @LennartMathiassen @se7en Sure, if you have all day to cook then that's a different story.

I have discussed the Cooking Question (CQ) in depth before.
@fluffy I spend 40 minutes preparing and cooking, 20 minutes washing up. Can't say that's 'all day'.

@LennartMathiassen @se7en
@thatbrickster @LennartMathiassen @se7en It is my observation that when I criticize the cooking lifestyle, people give wildly inaccurate estimates.

I've discussed the CQ in depth with @p already, you can search for our chats on this topic to read my arguments if you are interested.
@fluffy I don't need to. I am familiar with the CQ as it has been brought up in convos both here and IRL. This thread was about how those with below-median income couldn't afford to adhere to a 'good' diet. I gave an anecdote and there was no direct response except having the time, a different problem from the original topic.

@LennartMathiassen @p @se7en
@thatbrickster @LennartMathiassen @p @se7en People at median income probably have less disposable income than you do.

Being an unskilled worker in modern american is absolutely brutal.
@fluffy I've already said I'm stuck on welfare. I am given £251/month from the taxpayer. The 2019 median is £2532.61/month, according to the Office for National Statistics.

If you're going to self-insert, please have coherent logic.

@LennartMathiassen @p @se7en
@thatbrickster @LennartMathiassen @p @se7en
According to a website famous for low-balling costs[1]:
rent 724.77 £
utilities 176.46 £
car payment 331.46 £
petrol 200 £
Median income, on that site, is 1,810.91 £: Tax bracket in this range is 20%[5].

This leaves 378.22 £. Suppose you only save one hundred pounds sterling for clothes, dating, gym, and entertainment. Suppose, additionally, you have zero healthcare costs and no debt.

Then that's 278.22 £/mo. You're saying you can eat healthy on nine pounds sterling twenty quid per day.

I don't believe it. One dozen free range eggs is more than two quid[4] at tesco. 650kg chicken breasts precooked is 3.80 £[6]. Forget a paleo diet and fresh meat, you need to buy bulk food, mostly rice and potatoes, and freeze it. I don't believe it for a moment. You are living off ramen and bulk frozen food and trying to have a say about a healthy diet.

@11112011 @LennartMathiassen @p @se7en @thatbrickster Yeah

That's exactly what I'm saying though. All those prices because are the lowest cost factory products, instead of what you should be eating e.g. factory eggs vs free range eggs.

You can do it at ten, but you won't be eating organic meat and free range eggs. And you really really should be. That's what I meant.
@fluffy @LennartMathiassen @p @se7en @thatbrickster man that is not the case in many of our markts we have fresh food markets and reatail its diferent in most cities you get fresh organic food if you can afford to spend a bit more even in retailers you can get that
@11112011 @LennartMathiassen @p @se7en @thatbrickster That's pretty nice, then. I've noticed here in europe that a lot of the produce is just incredible. Are you in the EU?

Here, no matter what bread I buy it tastes like something from a gourmet bakery. The strawberries look like something I'd hand pick from my mother's garden as a kid.

I've heard otherwise, but, if this is the case in the UK for those prices then you should be able to squeeze by, but only if you cook.

Keep in mind that after working 8 hours and commuting you're left with 6 to gym, shop, de-stress, and then you need to cook as well.

They really should just pay ordinary workers more money.
@11112011 @LennartMathiassen @fluffy @p @se7en @thatbrickster actually I meant whatever the shit was that you snort into your nose but Im not a druggie
@igeljaeger @11112011 @LennartMathiassen @p @se7en @thatbrickster You probably mean cocaine.

Judging by rehab statistics, cocaine is less "druggie" than beer. But there is probably a selection bias.
@11112011 @fluffy @igeljaeger @p @se7en @thatbrickster
bro we started seeing the sun again like halfway through January don't you go round and round and smear Tromsø we got more than enough 🌞 here thank you!
@popko @11112011 @LennartMathiassen @fluffy @se7en @igeljaeger @thatbrickster Don't listen to your brain, Jojo. Did you know that 100% of your bad ideas all come from the same place? It's true. And that place is your brain.
