Wow, just saw a new peak in "join IRC channel, post message, leave": Leaving with an insult (homophobic one at that of course).

People aren't machines, they don't answer immediately, imagine joining an AFK room full of people doing something else and being so much of an impatient shit that you can't wait until one of them is done?

It's a huge cultural gap and the way it shows is an horrible spotlight where groups of people are expected by strangers to answer under 5~15 minutes, thus making other people preemptive over anything.

@lanodan i've always preferred forums or bulletin boards for user assistance and such because users always expect immediate exchange when you are on a chat room, also it is easy to track and follow different issues

@takashi forums for tracking one kind of issue? In my experience a lot of forum threads on technical subjects end up like a fediverse hellthread…

And yeah, BBS/Usenet are great, I wish to implement a modern NNTP server at some point.
