@MercurialBuilding be like "nooo I'm forced by the laws of physics to do what I decide to do, I'm enslaved to my own will, help"
@nemesis the physical laws cordon my choices to a probabilistic distribution
@MercurialBuilding yes, this terrible affliction is what we call "being able to make decisions, instead of just having random muscle spasms"
@MercurialBuilding what could a choice possibly be, if not a result of a physical law
@nemesis for choice to exist it needs to be independent of the universe, but nothing can be
@MercurialBuilding > for choice to exist it needs to be independent of the universe

why this literally makes no sense
@nemesis because otherwise it's just the result of what's come previously, which isn't a choice, it's determinism
@MercurialBuilding @nemesis the word will imples determinism
what even is a will that is not free?
the original intent of the phrase free will seems entirely lost
@gav @nemesis I figured free will meant the ability to make decisions in some way that wasn't solely influenced by thr past state of the universe, but thought that everything had to be. If you exist independent from the universe, though, you can have free will.
@MercurialBuilding @gav @nemesis thats what i thought lol.
its has to be independent from the system your in.
@tiskaan @gav @nemesis which nemesis justifies with everything existing simultaneously in a graph, so even though this universe generated you, you could exist in other universes, and make similar decisions. It isn't necesary for the universe to exist, for you to exist, and so your decisions aren't depedent on the universe.
