There will never be a "year of Linux (desktop)". The only way that phrase could be even close to coming true is if Windows literally adopts a heavily modified Linux kernel and uses it to replace their NT kernel.
But just as I see people not accepting Android phones as being Linux phones, I'm sure no one would accept such a Windows as being a Linux distro.
