Happiness evolved as a driver of function. "Doing" stuff isn't rewarding because we didn't evolve to have anything happen so easily and instantly. Striving and achieving is what accomplished things and let you have kids
Also, the objective of life was never to make children, making children is just an effect of the inherent egoism of life, since the bacterial days
