The Woodsman (2004)
A movie where Kevin Bacon is a pedophile trying to reintegrate into society after being released from prison for a sex offense against a child which is never really described.
No idea why I watched this but I was really hoping it wouldn't be a "look at this pedophile isn't he so human" type thing because it was made in 2004, but it was pretty much that. Kevin Bacon repeatedly displays he should not have been released into society and his 'redemption' at the end (by having a wanted sex offender arrested) did not really redeem him.
He attempts to groom a young girl and finds out in the process that she is already being molested by her dad. This has him suddenly realize, by watching how pained she is in revealing this information, that molesting children is wrong.
The movie never tries to answer the question "why not just kill them" and my position on the issue is unchanged.
However, it is an excellently shot movie and I felt many times throughout the film that the cinematography took full advantage of the medium to convey emotions and ideas without outright stating them.
Not sure who I'd recommend this to. It is a well done movie but it's Hollywood pedophile apologetics and I don't know why I thought it could be anything but.
