Americans don't want anyone to not buy solar panels. Americans want solar panels to be mandatory.
Americans don't want anyone to have the freedom to own a dog or not. Americans want dogs banned for everyone.
Americans don't want anyone to have the option to view porn or not. Americans want porn outlawed for everyone.
Americans don't want anyone to have the choice to smoke or not. Americans want smoking to be banned for everyone.
Americans don't want anyone to have the choice to wear a helmet or not. Americans want everyone to be forced to wear a helmet.
Americans don't want anyone to have the freedom to have the choice to work for low wages or not. Americans want everyone to be forced to accept high wages.

Substitute Americans for liberals or conservatives as appropriate and you just about have it. True Americans lived under the first confederacy of the United States of America until about 1789. Those were 13 of the best years for freedom. After that, it was all downhill. What we think of as Americans today bears little resemblance. If we went back in time to meet them, they would consider themselves conquered all over again.
