The Peripheral series on Amazon is real dumb when it gets away from the source material. I really liked the book. This is pretty disappointing.

This very closely matches my feelings on Darktide
Chained Echos is really good. It takes what was good about SNES-era JRPGs and puts just enough modern twist on it. I'm about 3 hours in and really enjoying it. There have been several deliberate nods to Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. Totally worth 25 bucks and it supports a super small team.

fun talk - the common view of the interaction of operating systems and hardware is false (pic 1) and the actual reality is quite more complicated (pic 2) with linux (or the OS in question) typically sandboxed away on one part of the chip (pic 3)
hardware designers are taking on more of the responsibilities which OSs should be managing, because the people designing the OSs aren't coming to the party.
The presenter views OS design as a promising field as there are currently many shortcomings and there is a demand for solutions.
