so is the fediverse basically just where people that would normally be rejected and treated like shit on twitter go? genuine question
@kallisti ah, i’ve been looking into how internet communities seem to reject people they deem unacceptable, usually over an opinion they hold, what many refer to as “cancel culture”, i notice it happens on a small scale to individuals as well as famous content creators so im trying to figure out more about that
@sandyx @kallisti It is called ingroup outgroup dynamics, in psychology. If someone in my town rapes, my town would hate them. If I lived in the time and culture of Genghis Khan and someone raped, we'd all congratulate him on his conquest and celebrate with joy. Ingroup outgroup dynamics. Do as the Romans do, because if you don't, they'll crucify you.

@Jazzy_Butts @kallisti makes me wonder if i am universally the “out group” cause i mostly just think of a lot of internet communities as hiveminded, or gatekept by hypocrite people, and once i was asked if i was glad to be part of someones community or whatever, and i said “i don’t consider myself part of any community”
