If you were in the Avatar universe (with the blue people) and got really close to nutting and then connected your tail thing to the environment around you, and then came, would that be rape? Like what if you were drunk and you accidentally connected your tail to the world while jerking it, are you raping the planet?
@luwa You and the planet in that universe aren't seen as different things, only separated for a short time

So it would be seen as you sharing it with a larger part of yourself
So what you're hypothesizing is that it is impossible to rape another being in Avatar. based.
@luwa I'm saying that culturally, from the tribe in the first movie, as I haven't watched the second, the concept doesn't exist, which doesn't mean it isn't a thing

After all, when they kill something to eat, they have a ritual of respect because obviously that part of you didn't want to die, and would rather eat you

So I imagine they'd still see it as an extreme lack of respect towards parts of your body that don't want it, though it is in the lore that there are orgies where everyone's connected to the land

@Sp @luwa What do you think of the people saying that the navi actually aren't in tune with nature and that they dominate it

I'd say they're probably as in tune with nature as could be as beings with the level of intelligence they have. Though you could argue that its changing due to the fact they need to defend themselves against the invading humans.
@luwa @Jazzy_Butts I'd say they're not at all in tune with nature, but lack the power to do more damage

They're made to be made mirrors of africa and the american indigenous groups
Which with a basic understanding of history seem in tune with nature, but anthropoly shows that that was not the case
What could they possibly do different to make them in tune with nature? They seem to genuinely care about the creatures around them and take/use only what they need

@luwa @Sp The argument is they've evolved to exploit beings around them instead of evolving their own methods of flight etc.

@luwa @Jazzy_Butts I believe the idea of being in tune with nature to be a dangerous one, as there are many interpretations of what that could even be

They are not in tune with nature, and do not use only the necessary things from nature

A few examples:
1. They have bows. This needs a bit of exploitation of nature, to kill nature more efficiently
2. Clothes. If they are like humans, in warm/hot places, the only *necessary* clothing is something to keep your balls in place while you run for men, so that you don't suffer testicular torsion and for women, a bind also so that the breasts don try to fall off while you run, causing in both cases, immense pain
3. They don't need to fly. "oh but the animals chose them"
That's called domestication
It wasn't a consensual trade

I believe we have to come to an understanding about nature

It is not there for us and we are not there for it
We are capable to do so much damage, a mass extinction has begun, and if we don't stop, we'll be extinct eventually
But
Nature itself would survive and thrive after after that, even with the permanent changes humans made

The understanding is, we depend on nature, and a lot of nature now depends on us and more, with our capacity to take nature to other places, we can, if we're smart (abolish capitalism) make it survive beyond the ultimate extinction event, the end of Earth/Sun

We are not in a relationship of equals to the planet. We take advantage of it because we want to be alive for longer, we want to eat better, we want to live better in general

We cannot do that without exploitation of nature

What rests us to do is to understand that nature has limits, and learn to respect those not for nature's sake, since that's too vague, but because that directly and at the point we are, immediately affects us and those we love
