kinda disappointed that if you look up "leftism" on youtube, prageru comes up multiple times before any popular left-wing channels

@mewmew try looking for 'regressive' while you're at it :AsukaSmug:

But yeah... I had the exactly same problem while lookimg up Libertarians. Sometimes, you just don't know the correct word to use when looking these things up.

@LukeAlmighty *shrug* yeah, conservatives are the real regressives and should be called as such

@mewmew yeah, since conservatives are pushing for segregation soo much these days...

I guess it will be better to end the political talk here, since it's obvious we do belong to a different corners of the triangle.

@LukeAlmighty @mewmew

The question we should ask: is "progress" good?

It's an argument from novelty, really.

"If it's newer, it's better."

The conservative argument: trust that which is tested by time.
@amerika @LukeAlmighty of course, that's why you're regressives. you're one step away from people who think the earth is flat.
@mewmew @LukeAlmighty

Except that we have known for thousands of years that Earth is not flat.

We like that which works in reality.

You like that which works in a social setting.

But, that fails over time, because that social setting is WITHIN reality.
@amerika @LukeAlmighty I dunno, most conservatives I know are religious :thinking_cirno:
@mewmew @LukeAlmighty

Most are, because religion keeps re-inventing itself, which means that it serves some role. Therefore, we want the sanest religion we can get. I think that's changing however as conservatives flee churches.
@amerika @LukeAlmighty I like Marx's take on religion.

I don't think it's possible to have cultural conservatism without religion, honestly. And as for economic conservatism - sure - but economic conservatism is just bad economic policy.
@mewmew @amerika @LukeAlmighty "cultural conservatism can't be had without religion" most of the regimes espousing state atheism in the 20th century send their regards

@allison @mewmew @amerika
You know that is bullshit right? We have 39 percent of population atheistic and it has no negative effect on conservatism.. (on the contrary actually)

@LukeAlmighty @allison @mewmew

Conservatism has always included a high acceptance for eccentricity, meaning that we like having churches but do not insist that everyone go (only that they suppress chuckles in public).
