To view a website
Browser is more then enough...

Now, could anyone with 2 or more brain cells explain to my why do some Californian idiots think it is ok to show me this shit, when the website itself is forking and scaled correctly as it is?

@LukeAlmighty They just want you on the app.

There was a time when I was excited about extra functionality that apps offer. But after some time, I realized that it just complicates my life unnecessarily, and then privacy concerns came up as well. Now I just use FOSS apps and try to reduce services like this.

At least you can view reddit normally in a desktop browser.

Thanks, but I need to ask again.

Why do they want me on an app? And why is is to important, that they are willing to risk loosing me totally, If I won't accept it?

What do they gain?

@LukeAlmighty Most likely, they can get more data via the app.

But more importantly, they can serve you ads there without you being able to block them like you normally would in a browser, at least that's my theory.

You personally are insignificant to them, as the masses will just use the app. You can see yourself that services somehow even *need* to have an app, or it wouldn't be such a big deal for gab and others being removed from appstores.

@okabe_rintarou
I would guess it's engagement, though that is a dumb reason considering they are seriously raising the entry barrier to new users...
