Unity project is 600 Mb. C++ with (deprecated) Open GL is 70. Sure.

Now, how much time did that C++ project require, and how much time did that Unity project require?

Also 37 FPS on Unity... I haven't watched this video but I'm sure that's not entirely Unity's fault.

If people uses Unity is not because it's better or worse, but because it's more convenient than having to deal with unmanaged code, having to deal with graphic pipelines, shader languages, debugging complex code that can lead to many memory leaks, etc.

Doing it on Unity achieves similar results with 75% less effort, allowing you to focus on your game rather than your code. And that's the point. Yes, it's "bloat" blah blah, but it works and it really eases the process. From a company perspective (not a hobbyist), or a student who is learning, or someone who doesn't want to deal with very complex code, it's the perfect tool.

Also if you want to deal with C++ in your game, there is also Unreal Engine.

Literaly never ending argument between usability and effectiveness.

I get it, your PC should not be powering up for 10 minutes, but to be arguing about a tool that made game development even possible for many, that's just retarded...

@LukeAlmighty > your PC should not be powering up for 10 minutes

I just remembered that Unity doesn't just allow you to export your game for PC (Both Windows and Linux), but also for console (Playstation, XBOX, Switch...). So it also eases the process of porting your game to different platforms from needing a dev kit and repurpose your code, to just a click (and a valid license of course).

@enigmatico
Exactly. The utility for most begining developers is immesurable.

(I am still working on first project, that is more complex then snake...)

@LukeAlmighty Beginners, indie companies, hobbyists... Modern games are getting more and more complex every day. The first APIs were quite simple, but over the time they've implemented more complex pipelines with more complex technologies. Just rendering a simple cube can be difficult and complex. And that's just the beginning.
