Why is the color scheme so ugly? I mean, this is not just ugly, Soetimes you get to a point, where you see something so ugly, you don't even know where to begin analyzing it...

because gotham itself (NYC) is really a character in batman
it is not the night but sinister aura of gotham that mandates the noir tonality
