And you think this is a good thing?

This thing behaves exactly as the hated google app store, and is the opposite of what user sees as freedom.

What's so wrong with installers?

@LukeAlmighty @Nonetrix There is *nothing* wrong with the app store by itself.

>and is the opposite of what user sees as freedom.
How so?

>What's so wrong with installers?
It's a complete disaster, a remnant from the pre-internet days. They are awful on every level, they make it hard to ship software, hard to update it, hard to get it, hard to remove it and hard to distribute it.

Yes, I agree that there is "in theory" nothing wrong with the repo itself, but it holds back the entire linux project.

You will have to explain your hatred towards installers though. Having a stable version of important software saved in one place and few dumb clicks away is THE important feature for me.

@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club @servant_of_the_anime_avatars@kiwifarms.cc it's true though it's just a kernel isn't a meme you can make Linux not like gnu/Linux or as most people know it Linux look at Android 2 completely different systems only thing similar in anyway is the kernel

Why do you people have the autistic need to point it out though, when you know exactly what I am trying to describe?

Linux is a branding disaster on level of xbox, I get it, but instead of going with the flow, it serves only to atract autistic rants.

@LukeAlmighty @Nonetrix >but it holds back the entire linux project
Why?
And you *can* have installers on Linux, without any problem, it's just that people hate creating them and people hate using them when the alternative is "system, install software X", either by CLI or GUI.

>You will have to explain your hatred towards installers though.
It is just very annoying to micro manage your system, when the computer is just fine managing it by itself.
Having to repeatedly uninstall and install again software because you want a newer version is just tiresome.
The alternative is each developer creating his own "here is how you update", most of which do auto updates anyways, which by itself is just annoying because it always happens when you *want* to use the software.

>Having a stable version of important software saved in one place and few dumb clicks away is THE important feature for me.
But it isn't stable, its just an old version, stability comes from regular fixes on an older branch of the software, which you get from a central repo, regularly pushing out the developers fixes, not by refusing to update anything.
You *can* have stable software if you want to, debian does exactly that.
@Nonetrix @LukeAlmighty But it's on the developers to create those. Having a distro making it's own installers seems very silly...

@LukeAlmighty@gameliberty.club just install a repo no one's holding a gun to your head to use the official repos if you don't like them for some reason
