I was seriously considering trying to federate classic forum software, but @sundowner in a private call said the idea is kinda lame. I like it still, but I'm more skeptical of it.
@NEETzsche @sundowner
Not sure just how different/necessary would it be, but next up in the line of social media would be reddit.
Not sure how would I even want such system to work though, but it would be nice to be able to find posts and comments on a single topic no matter what the room's owner thinks of me.
And of course, there is still a missing alternative for Dissenter, since the original "comment everywhere" extension got ban hammered hard. Not sure the federation would solve this one, but I still wanted to mention it in case it would...
@NEETzsche @LukeAlmighty @sundowner lemmy is highly debated about with their forced filters. you could use the fork or an alternative (when I bother about it, I will install github.com/mariusor/go-litter )
@NEETzsche @LukeAlmighty @sundowner did you know that you cannot talk about Nigeria on lemmy?
@NEETzsche @LukeAlmighty @sundowner
plus the (English) filter is applied globally, no matter what language is spoken. so words that might be not slur in another language are filtered out as well.

also bitching isn’t something I would slur out. have you seen what’s in the filter?
I did a long while ago when I first looked into it. Also, the link you sent me that's a fork of this doesn't work.
@LukeAlmighty @sundowner
@NEETzsche @LukeAlmighty @sundowner
i didnt send a fork. the fork i knew off was called lenny, but it has been long abandonned.
the link i sent was of go-littr - the link might got broken bc mobile magics. if so, im sorry. go-littr is a complete alternative to lemmy. though its not api compatible
The real question that I would like to ask is how convoluted is Lemmy's federation protocol? Do you know?
@LukeAlmighty @sundowner
@NEETzsche @LukeAlmighty @sundowner
that i cannot answer. the only thing i remember of lemmy back then, its a pain in the a*s (gotta censor or else lemmy will block this post) to set up.
btw did you know that lemmy is a tentacled slime blob pet of zone - the mascot of a huge hentai website?
@kura @NEETzsche @sundowner
Nothing makes your day brigther then a random zone reference...
Zanzibart, forgive me...
I thought you were joking! Omg that's so stupid.
They have a federated reddit named Lemmy but it has hard coded naughty no no words in it, and no, I'm not joking:
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy
And where he says he wants to make it hard for racists to use:
