Using #French instead of English can, maybe, make some French patriots proud. But it inevitably undermines understandability of their message. I hate these purely egoistical decisions. We got to the phase, where a truly universal language can finally exist, and instead of people swallowing their pride and accepting the benefits of globally shared information, let's argue where we can push our petty language... 
We can finally break the great curse of Babilon, and this is what some politians see as more important.
