re: Nintendo Direct - E3 2021

Metroid Fusion was one of my first gaming experiences and holds a special place in my heart for that. And while I was hoping for years for a new entry, I don't feel too thrilled about Dread. I think it's just the basic 3D style, which looks eerily similar to Samus Returns on the 3DS. Would've a new pixel-style entry been really that unpopular?

Fun fact: It was already hinted 14 years ago in a terminal log in Metroid Prime 3: "Experiment status report update: Metroid project "Dread" is nearing the final stages of completion."

Also, some recent info: "The general concept of Dread, in which Samus was chased by an overwhelming enemy that she could not defeat, had not changed over the 15 years. While the game places an emphasis on "fear-based gameplay", it is not intended to make Dread a horror game and the E.M.M.I. will not be present everywhere. The story will be important to Dread, but not intrusive, making use of occasional cutscenes similar to Samus Returns."

@okabe_rintarou
Same here... Metroid fusion was such an amazing game, and the only metroid game I've finished so far.

I'm looking forward to this one soooo much.

@okabe_rintarou @LukeAlmighty dread looks super dope and almost makes me want to spend money on a switch
@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou The Switch is great. I definitely have high hopes for Dread, partly because I really loved Samus Returns on the 3DS, and the guys behind that are making this game too.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou I think Sony's always been worse as far as multimedia and games are concerned. Incompatibility and double-dipping have always been their M.O. since the 1990s, and in their avarice, wielded digital restrictions management so poorly that they popularized the rootkit malware class on Windows. Whenever given the opportunity, expect Sony to break your shit and make you pay for the "privilege" of getting it back in some contorted form.
@ChristiJunior @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou Though I'll definitely say that Microsoft has been letting its mask slip since the Xbox One. Like I've said in poasts before, I bought one at launch and never found any game that really defined the "start" of the eighth generation to me. Maybe it didn't help that I was heavy on Halo and that 343 has spent the last decade sodomizing it, but it's definitely convinced me that there is a fundamental problem with vidya at large now, and I lack the power and means to fix it.
I can't say I regret it, though, because it helped me learn the hard way to be wary of consumerism, and eventually led me to the idea of software freedom, including vidya.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou lol. Whatcha got against sony? I’m all for giving less money on general.
@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou Sony is a pro-censorship, pro-SJW, anti-anime titties company that even censored our Shitposter instance over The Last of Us 2 memes.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou wait, what? Sony sent dmca requests to fedi people??? Sony is aware of the fedi and cares enough to dmca???
@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou Apparently. They were waging a ridiculously broad and aggressive internet censorship campaign to prevent people from learning about how shit The Last of Us 2 was prior to it releasing.

Sony is shit.
@ChristiJunior @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou SPC got DMCAed for posting a shop of Abby as Senator Armstrong. They stopped, which is why @neilbot can exist.

@rasterman @ChristiJunior @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou

What's so hard about letting me choose an install location? SERIOULSY? I NEED TO KNOW!!!

Shis shit is so tiring... Seriously though programmers in here... Why not give me such a simple choice?

@rasterman @ChristiJunior @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou
In that case, make it a zip god damnit... At least with a zip, I know where I'm keeping the files.

@LukeAlmighty @ChristiJunior @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou What are you seeing, exactly? I got a zip for one and an AppImage for the other. My bigger problems are that one is kinda bad at this point and the other requires impossible-to-find files.
@LukeAlmighty @ChristiJunior @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou Really? I couldn't even get it working because it needs to have an already hacked Switch to get some files from. It was supposed to be the superior emulator. At least is your computer 10 years old?

@rasterman @ChristiJunior @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou
Oh... The 2nd emulator got me through the main menu of P5. Although not much further, since the loadings are brutal.

@LukeAlmighty @ChristiJunior @Locksmith @okabe_rintarou OK, remember my first post about them was to keep an eye on them. They surely are going to get better with time. Just keep your PC updated and the Switch games might get there yet.
@ChristiJunior @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou Well, well, well, so the guy who loves to shit on Metroid now likes Metroid. Interesting... Most interesting. :elliotthinking: I guess on the next Direct you're gonna say how big of a fan of F-Zero you are... But for that Nintendo would have to announce a new one first. :cryingcat:
@rasterman @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @okabe_rintarou I never hated on Metroid, I've just pointed out that the games don't sell so well, especially not 2D Metroid games - which is why it was a pleasant surprise that a game like Dread got announced. With Advance Wars also being revived, Nintendo was really throwing a bone to fan favorite, but somewhat niche series this E3.
