If we compress the updates enough and install them before logon, user will not even notice.

Don't worry. during a win 11 presentation, they said, that win 11 updates will be 40 percent more compressed. (their words)

Compression means less data, but most people can download 10gb files in an hour, and can be done in parts on background.
Decompression on the other hand is extremly slow process demanding on HDD, CPU and Ram, as well as impossible to multi thread in most cases... So that is definite no. I would rather have a 5 min update tomorow, then a 3h update that was downloaded in 20 minutes...
