Which fact are you having trouble wrapping your mind around? That empowered women don't have kids or that the welfare state is bankrupt?
@aerith A welfare state requires taxpayers to fund the benefits for those who are disabled and retired. The main way a society maintains it's supply of workers (and taxpayers) is by having babies.
When a society stops having babies, they run into an issue where there are too many people on benefits, and not enough workers to support the system with taxes.
Governments are forced to turn to immigration in order to replace the workers who weren't born, which results in demographic replacement.
