In fact could push evolution...

Now, aint that something you assholes should have thought about 1 year ago?

@LukeAlmighty that's what i said right away, why are we employing all tactics for a virus with a nonexistant mortality rate? it might mutate to avoid those

@smugumin
Yeah...
A prolonged war helps noone.
But this single line... The simplest rule is too difficult for modern politician to understand.

@LukeAlmighty It’s silly because whichever forms of immunity dominate, natural or vaccine, and their combination, eventually there will be enough ecological selection pressure for variants or even an new strain to become dominant, or it’ll significantly fade. So until that point vaccine immunity mitigates the significant morbidity and mortality from what are now increasingly more transmissible and apparently more lethal strains, Alpha and now Delta, each with its own substitute amino acid in a critical part of the spike protein that is part of it getting into cells.

Right now that herd immunity is not exactly in the foreseeable future on any predictable time frame. Between vaccine “hesitancy” which is now mowing down unvaccinated people in my local region of US flyover country at rates higher than ever before, and a simple inability to vaccinate the willing in the Third World any time soon, especially with vaccines better than the strong women grift out of Oxford as made by AZ and the SII.

Delta was first found in India in October 2020 but is only fairly recently becoming the dominant variant, and how it’ll play out in the long term on unvaccinated populations is yet to be discovered for sure. I’ve read unreliably that the experience in other countries suggests it’ll significantly fade fairly soon, which will be fascinating if true. Like it could provide another clue into why COVID-19 hits some people very hard but most much less hard. Although we don’t have a great handle on morbidity, but it’s significant including delayed mortality: https://www.unz.com/isteve/when-will-biden-finally-shut-down-flights-from-india/#comment-4613645

@ThatWouldBeTelling
I don't smoke, I don't dring and I am realy young. Doctor said he has no idea why covid hit me so hard, since I am healthy young woman with no co morbidity...

@LukeAlmighty Heh. But I’ll repeat, COVID-19 effectively “passes over” (little immediate morbidity) a whole bunch of people like her, including a lot who are older.

And plenty who don’t have her obesity; I don’t know all the details including smoking and driking or not, but one guy who looked and was said to be healthy and obviously not obese in his thirties from my local region just died a squalid ICU death, was previously proud of his “conservative” beliefs or whatever that told him not to get vaccinated. He came to regret that before his death, and his friends and family are now lining up to get vaccinated.

With the elderly largely vaccinated in my local region, we’re seeing lots of hospitalizations and starting just now deaths in people in their thirties to fifties plus of course older, almost all unvaccinated and from the Delta variant, with the highest use of our hospital capacity ever in this pandemic….

@LukeAlmighty My parents and one of my best friends worked in healthcare in different parts of their career which is no doubt what got me interested in the topic, but I never did except for a post-retirement volunteer project for the latter. So I got an informal nuts and bolts education in the subject from the front line to the financial side, from them and a few of their colleagues and friends who were doctors.

Thus It’s something I’m been watching closely during the pandemic, and now of course there’s a full on propaganda effort to get people vaccinated, unfortunately one of those where the plain truth is quite sufficient for the message. Including the sheer frustration of our local healthcare workers and leaders, they’d hoped this would have been behind them as first they then everyone else was able to get vaccinated.

Part of the above sob story was forwarded to a local blog I follow from the guy’s widow; on Facebook their two accounts have the story of his getting sick, then really bad and expressing regret on not getting vaccinated, then stuck on a respirator but still with hope, then he didn’t make it….

@LukeAlmighty @smugumin don't think it was ever verified but apparently the guy that was part of the team that first created mrna vaccines said on twitter this would happen and he was against it
