>If "make your own" was the solution to the pervasive nature of blocking present on the fedi there wouldn't have been a twitter or a Facebook because everyone had their own site and forum available with free services. Obviously the trend didn't go that direction.
The actual political feuds between people didn't start instantly it put itself into place slowly.
You also need to consider what kind of users did the corporate giants attract, why would an average joe pay for a service when he can have it for free without busting his head ?
Why would the average joe migrate into fedi when he's gets less dopamine rewards compared to facebook/twitter etc... ?

>but blocking has become so increasingly common that fedis greatest strength is non-existent
Human related issue, thanks eugene for amplifying that.

>No point in "making your own" if 99 percent of people already block you.
These people eat their own at some point.

So, there is a huge blocking trend, but I cannot say, I see it as a problem.

Yes, the dream of 1 fediverse is dead, but sub-communities using 1 technology to create several networks? I still think that is worth it...

>I see it as a problem.
I too, but it's a human related issue that is not solvable with technology.

>I still think that is worth it.
It is worth it.

Simply said, the lesson from Discord and Reddit is obvious. You cannot get rid of moral puritans. And they will lie/bribe/sweettalk as much as it takes to get the power to ban people.

So, that is inevitable. But the mere existance of healthy servers is an achievement worth celebrating. Looking at blocking as a problem seems seriously negative considering that 99 percent of internet is incapable of the state fediverse is in now.
