Anyone that claims modern communications technology would keep us from collapse or would help us retain valuable information throughout collapse is foolish at best
@WoodshopHandman The first thing women thought to use communications technology for was texting dey friends and uploading pictures of their bob and vagene. This technology is absolutely useless outside of a highly militarized group of men or extremely autistic online spergs.
@Glowberg_Fedstein Consider also how easy it is to create misinformation and the ease with which one can gaslight the masses with the technology. Back at the start of Covid, many people ACTUALLY thought bodied were just piling up in the streets like a plague swept across the Earth, and nobody was quite certain to the state of hospitals because we had reports of overflow and people dying on stretchers in hallways but we also had dancing nurses on TikTok. It's all a fog.
@WoodshopHandman @Glowberg_Fedstein Consider how easily good, actionable information is buried under mountains of shit. The minute a search engine like Google became necessary to make the internet usable it should have been clear the mass, public internet was a mistake.
@TurboNormie @Glowberg_Fedstein It wouldn't have been so bad if we simply digitized information. Copy the text of antique books and use something like Google to just search the catalog; it's easy. But over the years I've come to realize that almost all of the critical knowledge stored in old books is still ONLY stored in those old books and the internet has been full of lowest-common-denominator appeals and vain novelty from pretty much the get-go.

@WoodshopHandman @TurboNormie @Glowberg_Fedstein Oh, there used to be fantastic resources online for all sorts of things. They’ve slowly vanished over the years as the people who ran the sites died or lost interest or got nuked by a service provider for “dangerous content” or whatever.

Those that do still exist, you’re very unlikely to find unless someone points you right at them. Discoverability on the internet has been dead for at least 5 years.

Information sources are now not rated by quality but by its shinyness.
While for instance the Tom Scott gives you feeling of teaching you the masteries of PC magic, you leave the video knowing nothing but a new good sounding phrase.
