@fluffy
How about, instead of "connecting", they stopped stealing the kids future and for once thought them something useful?

@LukeAlmighty @fluffy

Teachers just teach the class they teach. It's up to the student to find useful classes to learn from.

@nerdman @fluffy
Not sure where you're from, but in here, primary schools have fixed curriculum, High schools have a fixed curriculum and Universities have 80 percent fixed curriculum, so where the fuck am I supposed to choose?

@LukeAlmighty @fluffy

Other than that... Primary school should be hardcore math, reading and writing. So that by grade 7 or 8 you can do basic calculus. After that, everything elective.

@nerdman @fluffy
100 percent agree about the primary school.

About the universities, in here, we do have to gather enough points, but 80 percent of the subjects are selected for us, so if we do not care about the diversity corporatism classes, we can just quit outright.

@LukeAlmighty @nerdman @fluffy It's crazy how you get points for attending a lecture on diversity tbh. They probably know that is the only way people will attend them at university.
@sim

Meanwhile, I'll happily listen to hours of Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell for free in my spare time. I'll choose them over purpose-made entertainment much of the time. Take that how you will. :friedman:

@LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Ahh, but will it give you points for university credits? I didn't think so!
@sim

Why would I want university credits when I could get educated instead?

@LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Touche. But uni credits are how you get a career these days. Lmao.

@sim @leyonhjelm @nerdman @fluffy
No, it isn't
A good handshake and a wide smile is how you get a career. I learned that the hard and expensive way.

@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Yeah... doing this with someone was really bizarre. Makes more sense to just do nothing or shake hands and then wash them.
@sim

Personally I'd rather just shake hands and get exposed to viruses without worrying about it. I like to consistently challenge my immune system, I think that's vital to health.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Sometimes I wonder if that is vital to health. But you can't really escape them... in an ideal world there wouldn't be viruses attacking the immune system but that is unrealistic. Certainly, there are things I don't want to get to 'challenge my immune system'. Other things aren't too bad. Common cold doesn't seem too bad, for example. But catching something like the black death as a big historical example? No thanks.
@sim

People warned about this when the "social distancing" and masks started, but nobody took it seriously. I think it's entirely possible - even likely - that in extended absence of something to fight, the immune system stands down and increases vulnerability.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman To be honest, it's very hard for me to think that the immune system has been standing down during social distancing. Around the home, there are still so many things for it to fight even if you don't leave the house. I imagine you'd have to be really OCD for cleaning to prevent that. Or live on your own. Most people don't clean what they bring into the house. Also, a lot of the masks that people wear don't fit them right. I really don't think that is a concern.

@sim @leyonhjelm @Locksmith @nerdman @fluffy
It's not about standing down as much as changing the things it is fighting.
Imune system is not one dimensional, but in case a mother never eats peanuts, kid has a higher chance of peanut alergy. That does not mean, the rest of his imunity system will be bad. It just means, it doesn't know how to react to something so new.

@LukeAlmighty @leyonhjelm @Locksmith @nerdman @fluffy That's a good point, but then it may not overreact to something new. So it is hard to say what the right course is. Aside from, the option that doesn't get you killed and that changes for different factors.
@sim

I haven't seen much indication that there's an overall advantage to delaying exposure in any way. If anything, it seems detrimental overall due to the ways people go about avoiding exposure being unhealthy as a whole.

@LukeAlmighty @Locksmith @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Depends on your health, right? I'm not going to tell someone who is obese or has other underlying health conditions that impact the immune system that there is an advantage for them to be exposed to this sooner than they have to be.
@sim

Doesn't depend at all. If they are going to put themselves on hold indefinitely out of fear, the whole thing is pointless.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Well, I would hope the obese person would lose weight although this doesn't seem to be motivation enough for a lot of people. As for other conditions, that is a bit difficult. If someone has an immune problem, they probably were social distancing to begin with before all of this.
@sim

I don't see that happening when every avoidance measure encourages a sedentary lifestyle.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Well, over here we were encouraged to go out for a walk still. I would say that it matters more what people put into their mouths and that has been a difficult one.
@sim

Making it more difficult to visit the market has not helped with that at all.

During the voluntary 14 days initially, we lived off what we had and made do without a lot of fresh foods because if that was going to work, we were willing to do it voluntarily. It was not nearly as healthful as simply going about my business would have been.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Yeah. Honestly, I just got the impression that we went into a lockdown too late. This virus is basically another virus that is here to stay because it wasn't stopped in china where it began. And not having fresh foods doesn't help.
@sim

I don't believe this can be stopped by anything except letting it run its course. Everything being done to stop or slow it is counterproductive.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman But don't you think that it will just keep mutating? I don't think we've got the right solution to dealing with this yet... and most of that is preventing viruses from spreading in the early stages. Once it has hit the larger population, can't really stop it.
@sim

I hope it keeps mutating. From what I've read of virology, and from what actual virologists are saying, more contagious mutations are pretty much never more harmful than the original. Deadlier mutations tend to be too deadly to proliferate much.

As far as I can tell, continuously testing asymptomatic people is just a method to prolong fear and not an actual indication of problems. And that's without getting into the problem with the testing methods themselves.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman
@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman Since it is here to stay at this point, if the mutation keeps making it weaker then maybe that is a reason to want it to mutate.

One problem that I do see with creating fear is that it causes stress, and stress is not good for the immune system. So there has to be some way of letting people know the symptoms and risks without increasing their stress levels.
@sim

I believe the fear is the intended purpose of the messaging. There is nothing benevolent about what has been done over the past year and a half. If it were really being done for the right reasons by good people, the messaging would be consistent and they'd own their mistakes instead of the constant gaslighting we've seen.

@Locksmith @LukeAlmighty @fluffy @nerdman

@leyonhjelm @Locksmith @nerdman @sim @fluffy
I get that they wanted to get us to the phase of learned helplessness, but why now? Why use something so obviously false? I feel like the blowback has to be inevitable at this point.

Not only do I not fear the virus in the same way one would not fear a dog, I see people around me who truly believe they will have a flu for 2 days. What a strange tool to use for this goal...

@LukeAlmighty

Honestly? I think it was to ruin Trump's economy before the election, and they dug so deep on the lies they can't extricate themselves. And that they still had to cheat like hell.

Sorry to take it in such a political direction in this conversation, but I really do think that was what this was all about.

You seriously don't have to apologise to me for telling your pure opinion.

Yeah, I see how the mania they were in at the time could have cause them firing bullshit into the public minds so much, they still struggle to filter them out til today. Especially considering, that they cannot say it outright...

@LukeAlmighty

The apology was more for @sim, I know he enjoys a comfy experience when possible on here instead of a contentious one.

I believe anything that would cause problems was on the table for not just US Democrat leaders but also for world leaders who wanted him out.

I have had a theory about politicians for a long time that holds that most politicians who get there by any method other than party contrivance get to their post with an honest intent to do good and then get dragged into defending the old guard's bullshit to get anything done, or they don't get anything done at all and can't stay in office.

The problem is, by the time they're in a position to do the good they wanted to, they're tied to the bad decisions they've defended - even if they were the decisions of others. Meanwhile, modern mass media has made it impossible to change your mind in politics even for valid and well-reasoned changes in circumstance. They are quick to cry "hypocrite!" even if you validly change your position.

I would rather see any politician - of any party - give a speech saying he was wrong and why he's changing his view than see him entrenched in a bad position just because he has publicly taken it before. But that's not how our media allows it to go.

@Locksmith @nerdman @fluffy
@leyonhjelm @LukeAlmighty @Locksmith @fluffy @sim

TL:DR, I think. Instead I use this... analogy:

Political power is an island in the middle of a lake filled with diharrea. And there are no boats.
