Any smart evil person would know that the Streisand Effect would eventually kick in, due to the visceral compliance signaling of masks, combined with the irrational associated mandates.
Now that the Streisand Effect is kicking in, real historians will ask why those who would want to control us got so stupid all of a sudden.

If my history knowledge is correct, isn't an overreaction to a denied need of people the exact time, when real crisis starts happening? Be it one political party getting 80+ percent of votes, or even civil wars?

History does reveal that wars solve many of these issues.
I believe that conditions are different this time, with a positive outcome coming from non-violent resistance and deliberate control of the destiny of civilization by an awakened people.
Ask yourself, are awakened people good for those who would want to control them? How could the controllers, who have demonstrated smart and patient encroachment for generations, all of a sudden push too hard and get massive backlash? The frog is jumping out of the pot.
