It's amazing, just how awfuly modern apliences are programmed.
A kettle:
Upon finishing, it beeps twice. (One more time then is necessery, and in addition, I cannot change volume.) what a shame.
An oven:
Beeps 5 fucking times. That is just overkill
A washing machine:
It fucking keeps beeping forever, until I turn it off. WHY??? 
@LukeAlmighty my washing machine also beeps and it's very annoying.. if I have time, I'm going to reprogram it.. the beeping is still ok, but the fact that it drains water after 40 minutes (immediately after it heats it up to 40 C), some dick must have programmed it.. it would be nice if all the modern apliances have their source code available and be reprogrammable.. but - why? no BFU wants this and our economics is oriented to fullfill needs of the dumbest of the dumbest.. (they probably need the beeping :-D )

Now, that sounds like a good idea to form a niche company around.
Electrical appliances with programs, that can be fully customized through an API.
@LukeAlmighty I was thinking that it would be cool to produce a "repair kit".. one could replace the front panel of an existing washing machine for example and then program it.. but it would probably only work for a specific brand, in my case LG.. (fortunately the individual LG models differ in the design of the control panel, but inside they are basically the same..)
that's also probably the only thing LG makes money on - they are constantly creating new designs..
a customer wanting a new washing machine every five years because of the design (and throwing away completely functional hardware)..
so if LG allowed the possibility of editing their programs, it would lose the point of producing new pieces..
however, the idea of a manufacturer producing a sort of universal hardware I very like.. not only could one program it, but maybe even use a 3D printer to make a completely different design..
(but I have some doubts that it will work.. it's like cell phones.. there are also attempts to make universal hardware.. but I don't know many alternatives besides pinephone or librem.. it seems to me that customers don't want it.. they just want to pay and don't bother with any kind of programming or difficulties..)

The only redeeming part of the people I saw doing this is that they sold their previous appliance on the used market, and fully functioning appliances can still fetch some money.
