it's not a midlife crisis. Georgia is 20 years from midlife :shrug_akko:
@LukeAlmighty @kaia @critical @georgia

Age is an integral part of it though. (I made the same dumb joke.)

@dubh @critical @georgia @kaia
No, the age is prety much completelly irrelevant.

It just happens to be the most common trigger.

@LukeAlmighty @critical @georgia @kaia

How can you feel like you're running out of time, or have wasted time? "Oh gosh, I really let myself drift as an 8 year old, could have really capitalized on that potential." If every anguish is a midlife crisis then why even use that term.

You can easily feel like your life is meaningless and nothing meaningful will happen for the rest of your life unless you change something. No matter if you're 30,50 or 70.

And I thought you know that people are stupid. Phenomenon is first observed, then named and only after years it's understood. Meaning, that the modern understanding doesn't have to have ANYTHING in common with the understanding when the name was given.

@LukeAlmighty @critical @georgia @kaia

Age still seems like a core component. 30, 50, 70, what happened to 8? Address the edge of the spectrum where your argument is weak.

> the modern understanding doesn't have to have ANYTHING in common with the understanding when the name was given

What is this, fair-weather postmodernism?
@LukeAlmighty @critical @georgia @kaia

Neither is obstinately ignoring the example given. How can an 8 year old have a midlife crisis?
@dubh @LukeAlmighty @critical @kaia it ought not to be called a midlife crisis if it's nowhere near midlife eh. an existential crisis can be at eight if you're precocious. i had my first momento mori moment when i was like four. was at an exhibit on human aging, looked in a mirror and saw i was so young for the first time. and that I would get old and die. it was horrifying.

@georgia @critical @kaia
Now he asks if an embrio can have a midlife crysis...

Thanks for an example, I just doubt it will do anything for this dummie.

@LukeAlmighty @critical @kaia ughhhh in the first sentence i was disagreeing with you. but look, it's semantics right. are we being prescriptivist or descriptivist? if a midlife crisis is a crisis at midlife, it happens at midlife. if it is a "what am i doing with my life i need to change i've exhausted time already" it can happen at whatever age you feel you've made a mistake, that your life has taken the wrong path. is it merely an existential crisis around mortality? can happen as soon as one can reckon such a thing.
