Watching my friend's kids get set up to play multiplayer in some Lego game on their PS4 and they had to sign in the controller on a separate account then choose the same game to launch the account into. Then the game crashed on a loading screen. Fucking astonishing.

@HitterNeverQuitter @LukeAlmighty @lewdthewides Meanwhile when I was a kid our big issue was finding enough controllers to begin with. Games always worked unless you fucked up the AV connections or you had to turn your friend's Playstation 1 upside down because reasons.

They couldn't understand why I was amazed by a console game crashing and the login system. I always thought consoles were getting easier to use, but they've become more bloated and complicated since the PS3.

@HitterNeverQuitter @LukeAlmighty @lewdthewides That was the main appeal of consoles for the longest time. No installs, no weird shit, no having to multitask and have resource overhead bloat mucking up the game experience. You stick a game in, gameplay comes out.

But now they're essentially small computers, either in format or in actual hardware, and it's shit. I never wanted my PS2 to have a web browser and neither did I want my Xbox 360 to have facebook functionality and I never wanted my 3DS to have Netflix or Youtube support.

It's all shit. Why can't game consoles just play video games anymore?

I would get the argument, but consoles still lack most of the usages, so between full console, modern mix and full PC, I choose full PC every time. Full console is good too, but that wasn't an option with deck.

I was ready to do it, when they anounced the Steam deck.

And yes, it still is the best option out there, so if Deck fails, I will give it a try.

@lewdthewides @LukeAlmighty i do agree it would be a concern if it were running windows. while my main interest is in what the product offers as valve is advertising it, i am also interested in it as a whip on the ass of developers to get their stuff running on linux.
