This is really brutal. I gave Star Citizen the benefit of the doubt for many years, even though I find the fact that they sold ships for ten-thousands of dollars abhorrent, but the length of development is out of this world.

According to Wikipedia, pre-production began in 2010 and it was expected to release in 2014. The game is now in for over a decade in development. And as of November 2021, it raised over $400 million.

If this game eventually fails, it will have huge repercussions.

I've paid like 150 or so dollars in 2012 and I've already had my moneys worth of fun with the alpha over the last few years.

And I doubt that it will fail spectacularly.
They'll just keep underdelivering and missing their target dates until one day in many years there is something that is playable enough to call it a game.
And the whales that just keep pouring more funds into the game don't seem inclined to stop anytime soon, so I suspect that the devs won't run out of money anytime soon.

@special-boy @nukie @LukeAlmighty I simply don't know what to think of it. Chris Roberts seemed to have a good track record, so I didn't really think too much about it. But that is now around a decade ago. Honestly, it's pretty crazy how much time has passed since the game was announced. People went to school, got jobs, got married, got kids.

Maybe it will be the best game ever when it comes out, but the time it took to get there is awful.

And the fact that they appealed so much to whales is a definitive red sign to me. Yes, it's all voluntary, but it doesn't mean it's right and one that should exploit it.
