I unironically looked into building one of these:
1) Forget about it if you want to start combining containers. You have to hire a welder, and you also have to reinforce any cuts you make into the paneling
2) They ain't going to last for very long unless you also built a sloped roof on top of it. Standing water will rust the shit out of it, even if you buy containers treated for sea use
A manufactured home will be a better investment long-term

If you live in even a remotely wet climate, shipping containers will inevitably get rust/mold, the amount of nooks and crannies that you don't have access to, but water does is insane
The acoustics are also shit, you will lose your mind with the constant clanking and echoes
They also have no insulation whatsoever, you will boil alive or freeze unless you bury the fucking things but then you have rust and mold issues
I suppose as temporary forms of shelter they're fine but for making long-term viable housing it's a non-starter

It’s just a bad idea altogether. It would still cost a lot to build them in such a way that they’d meet code, and homeless typically live in cities.. so are they just going to move them to some field full of shipping containers or..? That’s also how they make money, so then what?
