I don’t have much interest in “style” or fashion other than some innate sense of Me versus Not-Me. Mostly functional, but I tend to like things that are longwearing, durable, and neutral when out in public, I like being largely forgettable as long as most of my stuff does what I want it to.
But, the story of this old italian man really makes me laugh, because the watch industry - and by extension a portion of the gay fashion world - bends backwards trying to turn his autistic sense of utility into a cool, upscale, chic way to wear a watch.
This guy always wore long dress shirts with the watch strapped over the top. Nowadays they seem to say it was because his fashionable italian dress shirts simply didn’t have the space underneath to allow for a watch below the cloth. Some now say that he wanted to show his collectible, super expensive hobby and appreciate his collection better.
Me? I’d bet he was allergic to some kind of metal and figured that was the best way to avoid breaking out in hives while enjoying his collection.

Seems to me like a case of time autism, where one day, he realized, he wants to check time 5 times an hour, and the shirt was getting in a way.
