The entire society is collapsing.
If you are a strong man in a broken society who refuses to go along, you still have no society to live for, and just suffer less when alone.
My life is pain free, since I made many smart decisions, but there is still no goal. I cannot "work the hell out" a new virgin wife. I cannot "pull myself by bootstraps" a house.
So, I just keep living at 5 percent capacity, with no debt, no pain, watching the fall that I cannot stop.
It is like sitting at the very edge of the titanic. You don't have to run anywhere, and most people will be dead by time you start feeling the cold water. But it's pointless to believe, that there are any escape boats left. So even if you decided to run back and find a raft, it would just be a waste of time.
