I know you heard this anwser before, but it's literally 1984.
Now, to the real one. It's a signaling tool. Of your group all use the same language, it takes a single sentence to know, if they share the same beliefs. It it the entire point of tribes. And while some idiot tried to kill off tribalism by forcing everyone into the same society, with no barriers, and destroying the old family structure. After a while, the build up pressure had to be released somehow.
And now, you have 2 tribes, that don't agree even on the definition of a woman living in the stabbing distance of each other.
I think you're wrong BTW. Iirc there is much less tribal violence in the modern, multicultural age than in previous ages.

I didn't say there isn't less of it now.
I am saying, that I am withing a stabbing distance from people, who think I am nazi, as well, as that it's ok to murder nazi without provocation.
And I believe, that it will explode really soon.
