i think a lot of people have come to the inherent understanding that life is pointless.
different gen x who didn't even work in tech also just up and walked from his job one day. no idea why.
in both cases their wives immediately left them too.
its weird with x because they haven't been shit on their entire lives the same way as millennials. i can understand why we do it (we've been told our entire lives we're spoiled, entitled, whatever discrediting statement to gaslight us in to believing asking for the same shit everyone else got in their life is wrong somehow) but it's not just affecting them its happening everywhere.
people are just shutting down

@moffintosh i dunno if things will get any better when the last boomer in power finally fucking dies. i have a feeling the damage has already been done and we won’t recover.
i’ve read around some academics looking in to this issue and it’s weird because there has always been corruption and crime and greed etc but like
it’s never been this bad.
the entirety of society has been soaked to serve one cluster of people and from early life to late life they’ve shaped the entire societal ruleset purely for self interest. and people just keep going along with it.
its also weird because as bad as we’re told ancient statehoods were their communities actually did have a heavy degree of communal fabric (even if their attempts at things were weird or didn’t work.) now it’s just like
everyone just hates that you exist and everything is set up for you to fail on purpose

I do not think it's permanent.
Humans are a naturally social specie, the issue is that we either have no time and place to actually socialize and build communities, while at the same time everyone is kept in a state of stress in order to maximize value extraction. IE long work hours, low wages so you have to work multiple jobs or be busy with side gigs. Meanwhile consumerism is presented as a solution by ads which keep you in a state of wanting.
oh shit i guess things will change for the better now i didn't know all my employees were so mad.well, no. the more you open labor history books the more you find that nice things were only ever had because the peasants went around god damn terrorizing the shit out of everyone until the rich people said please stop killing us we'll let you have a weekend off if you would stop causing our rail stations to explode constantly.

I loved that learned helplessness lessons, because while it didn't break me, there was a much deeper lesson of "the system hates you" in there, that the boomers didn't know they teach.
everyone does a little bit of egoism. but they also acknowledged that society needs to carry on. so you have a little bit of bread and a little bit of circus and then you plant the trees that you will never stand in the shade of.
boomers exclusively self-served and planted no trees. they voted for college subsidies when they were young and did loads of drugs and then voted to repeal subsidies and ban drugs when they were old and wanted the money for something else.
even though the survival rates for everyone else were extremely high and we never do quarantines this way (it's always the old and infirm who are punished for safety, not the young) they are still willing to kill the entire planet for their self interest.
it's literally just fucking satan directly encoded as a cluster of the population
anyway i don't care about that shit but i am deeply concerned about the social fabric that has been destroyed by these demons like the whole concept of your grandfather teaching you how to hunt and whatever is just GONE. X didn't pass it to Y, who isn't passing it to Zoomers.
and people defend them for it like "oh we should spend money to take care of the old" and its like bitch they got fuckin college grants, low/zero interest loans, huge ass wages and all kinds of protectionism.
all i ever got from the fuckin state is a laptop once because trump/biden were trying to buy goodwill
