I will point out that the 18th Amendment was widely campaigned for, so it’s misplacing blame to say it was “the government”. Really, it was the people that saw alcohol as a social problem, but didn’t understand that trying to ban it was only going to make things worse.

@Ottovonshitpost You can say the guy filming got shafted, but he was part of an attempt to perform an unlawful arrest that resulted in someone’s death, which is a felony. If someone dies during the commission of a felony, those taking part in the felony are guilty of felony murder.
More to the point, the guy filming wasn’t sent to prison for defending himself (and don’t start with some bullshit about he was “defending” the neighborhood or something). The only credible threat they could claim to be defending themselves from…was a response to their own unlawful use of force, so none of them would have been protected by the state’s self-defense statutes anyways.

Are you likely to receive a harsher punishment and media attention if you are perceived as having killed someone unlawfully, and the perception is that racial differences may have been a motivating factor? Yes.
But it’s silly to suggest that you’re going to become the new face of white supremacy if some gang banger tries to mug you and you drop him in response.
